  • Where can an exam voucher be purchased?

    Every student who registers for one of our courses get a voucher, valid for 120 days (unless specified otherwise) for FREE. To extend the voucher you can purchase an extension at www.ptrace-security.com/advanced-software-exploitation/.

  • How long does it take to receive a certificate once you pass the certification exam?

    If you pass the certification exam, you will receive a digital certificate within one week.

  • What is the Ptrace Security refund policy?

    Full refunds are only given to cancellation made 30 days or more in advance of the live course or workshop. We do not offer any refunds for fees related to our online training courses and workshops.

  • How can I schedule the exam?

    In order to schedule an exam, students are required to submit a report with the solutions to all the (extra mile) exercises in the course textbook to training@ptrace-security.com. After that, you will be provided a list of available time slots to take the exam. Select one and let us know within 48 hours.

  • How long do I have to take the certification exam after I purchase one of your courses?

    By default, both our training courses, the Advanced Software Exploitation course and the Python for Ethical Hackers course come with a certification voucher valid for 120 days, which means you have 120 days to schedule and take the certification exam.

  • When will I know if I have passed or failed the test?

    You will receive notification of your pass or fail status within 72 hours of submitting your exam report.

  • Where can I sign up for an exam retake?

    To sign up for an exam retake, use the Certification Retake link on the page of the course (www.ptrace-security.com/advanced-software-exploitation/).

  • Do I need to apply for another exam voucher if I need to retake an exam?

    Yes, you will have to request another voucher to retake the exam. Use the Certification Retake link on the page of the course to purchase the voucher.

  • Is it possible to download or print the training material?

    Unfortunately, it is not possible at the moment. However, because of the fact that our training platform is working on desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones, it is very unlikely that you will need to print the training material.

Advanced Software Exploitation Course FAQ

  • What do I get when I purchase the ASE course?

    When you purchase the ASE course, you get an e-mail with the instructions to access our training platform and download the VMs needed for the course. The training platform includes approximately 300 A4 pages of content, as well as, numerous quizzes and dozens of exercises to help you solidify what you learn.

  • If I purchase the ASE course, do I get lifetime access to the training material?

    Yes, every student that purchase the ASE course will have unlimited access to the training material until a new version comes out. When a new version comes out (approx. every 4 years), we will offer each student to upgrade for a very small fee.

  • Is the ASE course regularly updated?

    Yes, the ASE course is updated approximately once a month. At each update, you get fresh VMs, improved diagrams/scripts/etc., and from time to time entirely new sections.

  • Are the ASE course updates free?

    Yes, the ASE course updates are free.

  • Do you have any special offer, student discount, or general discount for the ASE course?

    At the moment, we do not have any offer/discount for the ASE course. However, every month we give a way a special discount through either our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube) or through our mailing list.   • What types of vulnerabilities are covered in the ASE course?

    In the Advanced Software Exploitation course, we cover a number of vulnerabilities including stack buffer overflows, structured exception handler (SEH) based overflows, integer overflows, uninitialized variables, uncategorized memory corruptions, information disclosures and memory leaks.

  • What exploitation techniques are covered in the ASE course?

    As the exploitation mitigations evolve, new attacks, often unnamed, are created. In this course, we show a couple of these attacks as well as classic return address overwrite attacks, structured exception handler (SEH) overwrite attacks, precise heap spraying, practical information disclosure and memory leak exploitation, and few more tricks that will allow you to bypass both the Address space layout randomization (ASLR) and the Data Execution Prevention (DEP). In addition, we cover the jump to register (jmp2reg, jmp2esp, jmp2eax, etc.) technique, return oriented programming (ROP), reusable ROP chains, and shellcode encoders.

  • How long does the CSED certification last?

    The CSED certification has no expiration date.

  • What is the CSED certification exam like? And, how is the CSED certification exam score calculated?

    The Certified Software Exploit Developer (CSED) exam is a seventy-two (72) hour practical exam where you are required to find and exploit vulnerabilities on 3 desktop applications. To pass the exam, you are required to exploit all the targets and submit a report with any file you created (e.g. PoC, exploit, fuzzer, IDA Python script, etc.) within 24 hours from the end of the exam.

  • What do I get when I purchase the PFEH course?

    When you purchase the PFEH course, you get an e-mail with the instructions to access our training platform and download the VMs needed for the course.     The CPH certification has no expiration date.

  • What is the CPH certification exam like? And, how is the CPH certification exam score calculated?

    The Certified Python Hacker (CPH) exam is a forty-eight (48) hour practical exam where you are required to develop 4 offensive tools as well as 2 exploits. To pass the exam, you have to develop at least 4 of the 6 scripts requested, one of whom must be an exploit, and then submit a report with the files created (e.g. scripts, exploits, etc.) within 24 hours from the end of the exam.
